Roots-oriented rock ‘n’ roll trio led by guitarist and singer Joe Pete

JOE PETE + SIX is NINE play rock ‘n’ roll and it’s roots, what we call Roots Rock Jams. The band presents a winning mix of rockabilly, blues, country, ’50s–‘70s rock ’n’ roll, folk-rock, and a touch of Louisiana, all seasoned with a handful of like-minded originals. There are big hits that connect with everybody, “B-sides” to keep it interesting and surprising, and originals that are favorites you haven’t heard yet. People always say, “what a great set list.” Really, they always say.

Frequent offenders

Joe Pete leads his trio SIX is NINE with his guitar and vocals. He’s honored to have a list of top-flight pros to call on for bass and drums. Everyone is busy and availability varies depending on schedules, but there are a couple of “most usual” players at each position.

Joe Pete with frequent SIX is NINE offenders Hubcap Brian Rost (bass) and Richard Malcolm (drums).

Very often Brian Rost is laying down the bass (and sometimes singing). Other bass players have included the superlative Steve Bigelow, Gian Criscitiello, Ken Lafler, Ken Steiner, and Joe Klompus.

Drummer Richard Malcolm says that he actually really enjoys keeping the time for 6is9, which he does superlatively. And he keeps us in stitches. Other drummers have included the legendary Mickey Bones (more on him in a minute), Clark Goodpaster, Jeff Allison, and Frank Marsh. An embarrassment of riches.

Do you play bass or drums? Want to be on the list? See the contact page and send Joe Pete a message.

Drummer Mickey Bones is a style maven too.

Mickey Bones gets his own paragraph because he and Joe Pete are good pals and have been playing together for many years. And he’s a super talent, a great drummer, a genuine natural musician, creator and keeper of the groove, and a great singer too. He started the Boogaloo Swamis and the Hubcaps that included both Joe Pete and Brian Rost. He’s in and out of town and plays with other bands and so isn’t always available, but when possible we get Mickey on the gig. The one, the only Mickey Bones.
